What to Expect From an Online Golf Swing Review

Updated October 22, 2026 · Written by the Your Golf Plan team · Written for right-handed golfers; if you play left-handed, flip left and right.

An online swing review is a coach watching a video of your swing and sending you feedback on what to change. It is not a live lesson, and it does not replace one, but it is the simplest way for many golfers to get a professional's eyes on their swing.

What you send

  • Two short videos from two angles: down the line and face on. See our guide to filming your swing for where to place the phone.
  • A short note about what you want to fix, your handicap and your typical miss.

What you get back

  • A recorded video from your coach, talking about your swing and drawing on it.
  • One or two drills to work on, chosen for what they saw, not a long list.
  • Notes you can watch again. Many golfers play the video on the range.

How long it takes

At Your Golf Plan a review usually comes back within a day and is always delivered within 48 hours. Other services vary, so check before you buy.

How it differs from an in-person lesson

  • You do not get a live coach to watch you hit balls and adjust on the spot.
  • You do get a recorded review you can watch as often as you like, with no scheduling or travel.
  • It is a lower-cost way to start, and it suits golfers who want to know what to work on.

Who it helps most

  • Golfers who have never taken a lesson and want a low-pressure first step.
  • Players stuck with a miss they cannot explain.
  • Golfers who want a coach to check in between in-person lessons.
  • Anyone who wants a plan for the winter.

Who should consider an in-person lesson instead

Golfers who want hands-on help with feel, who are recovering from an injury, or who want to be guided through a full swing change are usually better served by a live coach. Many golfers use a review first and add in-person lessons later.

Drills that help

Get the most from your review

  1. Write one sentence about your miss. For example: 'My driver slices when I am nervous.'
  2. Film two angles of the swing that produces the miss.
  3. Watch your coach's review twice, then work on one drill for two weeks.
  4. Film again and compare.

What you should feel: A clear plan you can follow without guessing.

Not sure this is your problem?

Drills only work if you are fixing the right thing. Film your swing from down the line and face-on, and a PGA coach will tell you what is actually happening and give you one drill to work on.

What a coach looks for on video

  • What you are trying to fix, in your own words
  • Whether the video shows the problem swing
  • Your handicap and how often you play
  • Anything that limits your movement, such as an old injury

That is the difference between guessing from a guide and knowing from your own swing. Two short videos are enough for a coach to check all of this.

Common questions

Is an online review as good as a lesson?

It is a different tool. A review gives you a professional's eyes on your swing and a plan. A live lesson adds hands-on adjustment. Many golfers start with a review.

What if I do not know what is wrong?

That is normal. Film two angles and write what is happening. The coach will tell you what they see.

Have a coach look at your swing

Send two short phone videos and tell us what you are working on. A PGA coach sends back a video review and a drill built around your swing, usually within 24 hours and always within 48.
